Alternate Annuals for Impatiens

While there are a host of annuals you can use instead of impatiens, at Abby’s, we highly recommend SunPatiens. They are a new hybrid impatiens that is completely resistant to downey mildew. What’s most impressive about this annual is that it’s suitable for a wide variety of landscape situations from patio pots and beds to mass plantings and large scale beds due to its ability to grow up to 48” tall.

Unlike other New Guinea impatiens, SunPatiens varieties have quick developing root systems (even in colder weather) that will tolerate full sun as well as shady areas and do not require deadheading to stay fresh.
While their color and size selections are a great plus, it’s the ability to utilize less plants per square foot of planting bed that is the real attraction. The wider-spreading plants and the rapid growth rate means you can plant them on 16- to 18-inch centers and get total bed coverage in short order. In other words, less planting time, less gardening effort and quicker garden results. What more could you want?
