Prepare Your Vegetable Herb Garden

Growing your own vegetable garden can be rewarding. There is nothing quite like fresh home grown produce. A few simple steps can put your garden on the path to success.

When your soil thaws enough to start being turned over simply add the following organic items: Bumper Crop Compost, Espoma Garden Tone or Tomato Tone, and lime. If you plan to grow tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, eggplant, etc., thoroughly incorporate these items by turning into your existing garden beds, making sure to break up clumps of soil.

You can plant cold weather crops such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, lettuce, radishes, beets, onions, shallots, before all chance of frost has disappeared [approximately March 25].
Crops such as tomatoes, peppers, squash, eggplant, beans & melons are more successful when your plant after all chances of frost have passed. [May 15]

You can get a head start with all of these vegetables indoors by seed or seedlings and allowed to harden as well as grow larger, before being transplanted outdoors at the appropriate time.
